Jan Ehrig was born in Tönning in 1968 and was admitted to the bar in 1996. After completing his studies in law and socioeconomics at the University of Kiel in 1992 and a year’s practical training in Paris, Jan Ehrig completed his legal clerkship in Hamburg and Atlanta (USA). He speaks English and French and is a lecturer at the University of Hamburg’s Institute for Economic Law, where he lectures on commercial and corporate law. He is also a certified specialist lawyer for commercial and corporate law, as well as for construction and architectural law. In 2010 and 2011 he completed the Post Graduate Real Estate Law Programme at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster and received a Master's degree.
Jan Ehrig has been a partner at the Hamburg law firm MARX Rechtsanwälte since 1997. This law firm was founded in 1973 and offers comprehensive advisory services in all aspects of commercial law for Mittelstand companies, as well as for various credit institutions and listed stock corporations. The firm places great emphasis on client relations and high quality advice, as well as speed and flexibility when dealing with instructions. MARX Rechtsanwälte is a founding member of the global lawyers’ association CONSULEGIS EEIG, which counts around 1,700 fee earners in 42 countries.
In addition to general issues regarding commercial and corporate law, Jan Ehrig also focuses on real estate and construction law. He advises various project and property developers in connection with construction projects and provides comprehensive project management. His clients also include public authorities. Furthermore, Jan Ehrig has for many years advised one of the largest engineering firms in Germany with regard to international industrial projects and major public construction projects. He also has extensive experience in architectural and engineering law.
In addition, Jan Ehrig also focuses on insolvency and corporate rescue, playing a role in the successful corporate rescue of various Mittelstand companies. In this area, MARX Rechtsanwälte co-operates with consulting, accounting and tax advisory firms and also has in-depth experience in advising companies pre-insolvency, particularly in avoiding civil or criminal liability claims against company management.
Jan Ehrig is a member of the Hamburg and German Bar Associations and is also the representative for MARX Rechtsanwälte within CONSULEGIS EEIG.
